The Greater Sandhill Crane stands 5 feet tall and has a wingspan  of up to 7 feet. They winter in the upper Butte Basin, foraging on harvested rice stubble, but also enjoy a variety of amphibians, reptiles, small mammals, birds, eggs and plants.

A Bald Eagle in the Lower Klamath Wildlife Refuge watches for dinner. Having traveled from as far away as Northwest Territories in Canada and Glacier National Park, hundreds of Bald Eagles quickly settle into a daily routine of waterfowl scavenging throughout the Basin’s marshes.
